How It All Began
“Robert, come to Poland. Warsaw is a beautiful city.”
This is how it all started. My friend Richard was living in Warsaw when Roman Polanski was making his film “The Pianist” and one afternoon they found themselves face to face during a break while Polanski was shooting on location. Richard told the director how much I admired his work and that he had a friend in Canada that he wanted to join him in Warsaw. And he wanted a recommendation from someone who knew Warsaw well. So Roman Polanski put it in writing, signed his name, and my formal invitation was complete. How could I refuse such an offer?
